Trek It Out

"This autumn, traditionally outdoorsy boots take on new terrain with fierce heels and luxurious furs. Part rugged, part refined, lug soles with a stiletto spin are picking up traction... To ease the transition from fall to winter weather, pair a shearling-trim bootie, canvas-quilted clog, or fox-hair-insulated platform with one of this season's Highland-esque plaid skirts. These haute hybrids aren't intended for taking on alpine trails, but they can nimbly handle trekking around town." - Vogue, November 2010

Chic in Neutral

"Pieces in nude, khaki, beige, or taupe are anything but bland this fall, and it's an easy way to add a little timeless and classic edge to your perfect fall outfits." - Refinery 29

Not Quite Winter

Today when leaving the house, I couldn't bring myself to put on my long winter wool coat, even though it was quite chilly outside.  So instead, I grabbed a big scarf and a warm blazer, and was surprisingly comfortable.  And I just love the look - check out these street style photos and some options from Shop Bop.

First of November

October flew by - and it's finally feels like fall, and perhaps a bit chillier.  It's definitely time for outerwear, like the Burberry jackets I was coveting a few months ago.  And boots too - check out Shop It To Me's picks for chic hiking boots and Style Bakery's roundup of warm, comfortable boots for your commute.

On Thursday, October 28th, ReadysetDC and STROGA presented a runway show featuring local DC businesses and designers, including; ARTAYA, De*Nada Design, Derringer Friday, DURKL, Ginger Root Design, Mercedes Bien Vintage, Rue 14, Toucan and Treasury.  Guests sipped champagne, chatted with other fashionable party-goers, and enjoyed a great show.  I just loved seeing all the local talent!

Here are some of my favorite photos from the event.  To see more, check out my flickr set here.

Brocade

I’m loving the rich yet edgy look of brocade that I’ve seen lately, everywhere from Balmain to H&M, on Clemence Poesy and in October’s Marie Claire.  And I’m not the only one.  According to Who What Wear, this "glitzy trend" owes its glory "to a number of intriguing sartorial influences."

"At Balmain, Christophe Decarnin embraced formerly stuffy brocades and jacquards that would typically feel at home in a room at Versailles and infused them with renewed joie de vivre… The high-voltage look not only radiates a dangerously provocative sex appeal, but it is also texturally stunning and complex. The same electrifying use of mixed materials was also favored at Roberto Cavalli…” – Who What Wear

Made in Minnesota

This past weekend, while out shopping with my little sister in St. Paul, I had the pleasure of visiting an eclectic woman's boutique named A. Michele.  Filled with fun and fashionable clothing, beautiful accessories, and funky decor, I was instantly impressed with the Minnesota store.  I've always considered my little sister to be the most fashionable in our family, so I was not at all surprised this is one of her favorite local stores.

Though my sister's taste is more hippie chic compared to my "city classic" style, there is something for everyone at A. Michele.  I especially loved the necklaces made by local designer Tracy Bennett.  Her line, Scout Vintage, is made entirely of recycled, vintage materials that she re-fashions into beautiful, edgy creations.

If you are ever in St. Paul, stop by A. Michele and check out their wonderful shopping selections, including Scout Vintage!
